Simple chocolate marble cake and loaf cakes have been all time favorite of mine and I am up for baking one either as soon as I get a request from family and friends or when I want to eat some cake. In all these years of baking, I have never got bored of baking such cakes at home. It is more therapeutic than it may sound cliche to any non-conformist baker or cook. As a matter of fact, I have been asked many times that didn’t I ever get bored of baking for my own self and every time the answer is a resounding No with that conviction of trying one more recipe. And it brings a wide ear to ear to smile not on just my face but also on my kith and kins. A friend of mine recently commented on one of my Instagram posts saying that I don’t have an idea that I have been creating memories for the kids at home. And it made me feel so overwhelmed. Every time I go back home, kids have an eye on my backpack searching for the cake which they would expect me to bake for them. And how sweet is this, that kids also like these kinds of simple marble and loaf cakes which I like! I think the love for desserts lies in the family genes. Last weekend when I went home, I got this simple chocolate marble cake for kids. The classic combination of chocolate and vanilla cake is something every kid would love to have. Not just because of kids-palate-friendly flavors but also because of the dreamy marbling pattern. It didn’t take much time for the cake to be polished off by both kids and the adults.

- 85 gm butter, softened
- 150 gm plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 75 gm dark chocolate, chopped
- 150 ml milk
- 200 gm light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 25 gm cocoa powder
- 100 gm butter, softened
- 150 gm caster sugar
- 2 eggs
- 180 gm plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 150 gm plain yogurt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 icing sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp freshly brewed hot espresso
- Preheat the oven to 180 degree C. Grease and dust with flour, a 12 cup bundt pan.
- For the chocolate cake batter, heat the chocolate and milk together and make a smooth paste. In a bowl, beat together butter and brown sugar until pale and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add the chocolate mixture. Sift in flour, cocoa powder and baking powder together and fold until just combined.
- For the vanilla cake batter, in a separate bowl, beat the butter with caster sugar until pale and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Whisk in vanilla extract and yogurt. Sift in the flour and baking powder and fold until just combined.
- Spoon the blobs of chocolate and vanilla cake batter alternately in to the prepared pan. Tap the pan hard on the work surface, to let the batter settle into the pan and remove any trapped air bubbles in the bundt pan cavities. Bake for about 45-50 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre of cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Invert onto the wire rack.
- Meanwhile prepare the mocha glaze by mixing all the ingredients together. Brush or drip the glaze onto still warm cake. Let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
